I found the Festival of Quilts quite overwhelming, just so much stuff. I was fortunate because I had an Exhibitor's pass so was able to get inside early and have a wander. I take my hat off to the traders, it really is a marathon for them, they must go into training for the selling season.
I didn't really have time to study all the quilts but some did catch attention as I passed by without my camera, so I I am having to depend on friends. Here is one I liked -
It is called "Double Delight" and was made by Pauline Law Kloof of South Africa. It is woollen, knitted with some crochet and inspired by Gees Bend quilts. I love the bright colours, especially in wool which saves it from being garish. It didn't get a prize of course, when do quilts that I like get prizes? That will be the day!

That is a lovely quilt and the use of the grey/beige has softened the colour scheme. Really wished I could have gone this year. Never mind, maybe next time.
its a lovely quilt, thanks for sharing it. i'm planning on doing 2 or 3 days at the show next year so i can take it all in properly. i'm hoping we can find somewhere nearby for other half to go off and enjoy himself, it would be his idea of hell!
Lovely! It would be very nice in plain cottons too, 'tho finding the right soft but clear tones is always a challenge. Especially like the deviation from log cabin block to square in a square on one side. Very funky.

Yes Kate, it would look good in plains, cottons from Oakshott perhaps? They have a wonderful range of plains, I have used them mainly for backings and they quilt beautifully.
Leaving comments in general has become such a hassel that most of the time I don't try.
I do like the quilt you like as well and love your thoughts on winners....
so will see if the comment is sent or if it gets eaten by the what not.

I thought the show was overwhelming too - just so much to look at and take in. Wouldn't have missed it for the world - I loved the knitted quilt too - really clever. I somehow missed your stand though - it would have been good to introduce myself - next year!

I finally finished my first quilt with Welsh quilting! American patchwork, but you know me, I'm interested in combining the two. You can see the photos and the quilting sketch at http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-145562-1.htm. Everyone's been raving over the Welsh quilting. My next move will be a Welsh wholecloth, which I'm a bit nervous about designing. Any tips? I remember you saying once that designing the quilting for a wholecloth is very different to designing the quilting for a pieced quilt.
I so enjoyed meeting you at the show and loved the quilts. My next project will be a welsh quilt one. The DVD is excellent and I would recommend it to everyone.

Huzzah! Meanwhile I will probably start my project of copying out wholecloth designs onto graph paper and keeping them in a folder for easy reference. I have nearly finished quilting my current project, then I really need to get on with this wholecloth quilt before too long.
My Mom made that! I am so proud of her. Thank you for showing her work off. She is thrilled to bits that you can now Google her name and see her work!! Also pleased that that quilt is lying on my bed upstairs!
